Gentavet

 

Each 1 ml contains:

Gentamicin  Sulphate            50 mg

Gentavet Inj is indicated for therapy of the following diseases induced by Gentamicin- susceptible strains of diseases:

Respiratory infections in horses and foals. Infections of the uterus in beef. Respiratory tract infections, infections of the gastrointestinal tract and septicemia in calves. Respiratory tract infections, infections of the genitourinary system, infections of the gastrointestinal tract and septicemia in dogs and cats.

Administered by intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous injection slowly.

  •         Horses and Cattle: 4.0 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.8 ml of Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight, twice daily at 12 hours intervals for 3 – 5 days.

 

  •         Foals and Calves in the first months of life:

Initial treatment: 4.0 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.4 ml of Gentavet Inj / 5 kg bodyweight.

Second treatment: 2.0 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.2 ml of Gentavet Inj / 5 kg bodyweight.

 twice daily at 12 hours intervals for 3 – 5 days.

 

  •         Dogs older than 2 weeks: 4.4 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.88 ml Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight, twice daily at interval of 12 hours, starting from the second day once daily at 24 hours over 3 to 10 days.

 

  •         Dogs younger than 2 weeks:

Initial treatment: 4.4 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.88 ml Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight.

Second treatment: 2.2 mg Gentamicin / kg body weight corresponds to 0.44 ml Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight.

  twice daily at interval of 12 hours, starting from the second day once daily at 24 hours over 3 to 10 days.

 

  •         Cats older than 2 weeks: 3.0 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.6 ml Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight, twice daily at 12 hours intervals for 3 – 10 days.

 

  •         Cats younger than 2 weeks:

Initial treatment: 3.0 mg Gentamicin / kg bodyweight corresponds to 0.6 ml Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight.

Second treatment: 1.5 mg Gentamicin / kg body weight corresponds to 0.3 ml Gentavet Inj / 10 kg bodyweight.

  twice daily at 12 hour intervals for 3 – 10 days.

 

-       Because of the narrow therapeutic index of Gentamicin, it's necessary to ensure bodyweight- based dosage.

-       If after 2 – 3 days treatment, no significant improvement in the clinical condition has occurred, the diagnosis should be reviewed and if necessary, perform a conversion therapy.

If proven sensitivity in the pathogen longer treatment may be necessary, a regular kidney function test is necessary because of the associated risk of renal damage.

-     Do not use in animals with renal disorders and disorders of the auditory and sense of balance.

-     Do not administer concurrently with strong-acting diuretics, and potentially nephrotoxic drugs.

-     Do not use in exotic animals, because of the risk of acute renal failure.

-     Do not administer intravenously or intra-abdominally with the concurrent use of muscle relaxant drugs.

-     Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to gentamicin or other Aminoglycoside or any other ingredients.

-     Do not administer simultaneously with bacteriostatic antibiotics.

-     Do not use in resistance to Gentamicin, Kanamycin, Streptomycin, Dihydrostreptomycin or Paromomycin.

-     Not for use in animals with bodyweight less than 2 kg.

-     Not for use in horses, used for food production.

 

Beef / Veal – Meat and offal: should not be used during treatment and within 95 days from last treatment.

Cattle – Milk: shouldn't be used during treatment and within 6 days from last treatment.

-Store in dry dark place at temperature below 30˚C.

-Shelf life after first opening of the container: 28 days.
