Largo® (larvicide premix for Poultry )
LARGO® 1% Feed Premix
is a cyromazine-based larvicide designed to control fly larvae in poultry manure. It disrupts the moulting process of larvae without affecting adult flies, making it ideal for integration into long-term fly management programs. Safe for layers, breeders, and broilers, LARGO® is mixed directly into feed and supports improved hygiene and biosecurity in poultry housing.
Benefits
✔ Preventive and curative larval control
✔ Easy feed-based administration
✔ Environmentally safe
✔ No risk of resistance when rotated properly
Description
Composition:
Each 1 gm contains:
- 10 mg of CYROMAZINE in form of a water soluble powder.
Indication:
An insecticide to control larvae of nuisance flies in poultry manure Effective against the following Diptera species:
- house fly (Musca domestica)
- lesser house fly (Fannia canicularis)
- false stable fly (Muscina stabulans)
- American soldier fly (Hermetia illucens)
LARGO® affects the moulting process of fly larvae. It does not kill adult flies. The elimination of adult flies is therefore gradual.Situation: Poultry housing, for broilers, breeders and layers.
Dosage and administration:
Mix 500 g of Largo® premix per 1 tonne of normal poultry feed.
Mixing: Ensure adequate ventilation when mixing into feed.
- Commence treatment when fly activity is noticed. Continue for 4-6 weeks or until the fly population is under control. Repeat when flies re-establish themselves.
- Any spillage of premix or of feed mixed with the premix should be cleaned up immediately, preferably by recovery and use in/or as poultry feed.
Withdrawal period :
Meat: Remove all medication feed 3 days before slaughter for human consumption.
Eggs: Zero day
Warnings:
- If manure from poultry fed LARGO® is applied to land that is used for growing food crops, particularly grain, finite crop residues may occur.
- To avoid illegal residues:
Do not apply manure to soil at rates > 4 dry tonnes/ha/year
- The use of an adulticide, is recommended between LARGO® treatments. The applying of adulticides directly onto manure may harm beneficial insects that breed in the manure.
- DO NOT apply other cyromazine-containing larvicide products to the litter in conjuction with feeding Larvadex 1% Feed Premix to the birds in the sheds.
Precautions:
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, skin and inhalation or clothing. Wear protective eyewear and wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), elbow-length rubber gloves and disposable gas mask After each day’s use, wash gloves and contaminated clothing.
- Avoid contamination of food and food utensils.
- Don’t eat, drink, smoke or chew while handling.
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco or using the toilet.
- Wash the contaminated part of the body immediately with running water.
- Cyromazine possibly may affect blood and the hematopoietic system. Handle with care.
- Always, dispose empty containers safely.
General Directions:
This product recommended to be used as part of an integrated fly control program.
Integrated fly control involves sanitary and management practices to compliment chemical control methods consisting of adulticides and larvicides. The following practices help eliminate potential fly breeding sites:
- promptly remove broken eggs and dead birds.
- repair leaks that contribute to wet manure (undesirable odour and an ideal breeding site for flies). Largo® encourages manure drying.
- reduce feed spills in manure pits and clean up feed spills and manure spills, especially if wet.
- ensure good shed ventilation to reduce moisture in manure in the pits.
- ensure good site drainage to avoid ground moisture “wicking” into manure cones.
- ensure any other fly-infested animal operations in close proximity to the poultry operation do not act as a source of invading flies.
- DO NOT spray non-specific insecticides onto manure as this may inhibit biological control.
- In certain situations, retention of a dry manure pad (~20 cm high) following clean out of layer sheds will give superior fly control by:
1) providing a suitable habitat for beneficial,manure-inhabiting predatory insects and mites that eat fly eggs and larva .
2) facilitatingdrying of additional manure strata.
FIRST – AID:
Eye contact:
- Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes.
- Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing.
- If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice and attention.
Skin contact:
Flush contaminated skin with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.
Inhalation:
Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing.
Ingestion:
Wash out mouth with water. If material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give small quantities of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel.
