Colistin Sulphate 4.8 MIU
Treatment and metaphylaxis of gastrointestinal infections caused by non-invasive Escherichia coli susceptible to Colistin.
The presence of the disease in the herd should be established before metaphylactic treatment.

Dosage:
Calves and Lambs: 100,000 IU of Colistin / Kg bodyweight (1 g of Colivet 4.8 / 48 kg bodyweight) daily for 3-5 consecutive days.
Poultry and Turkey: 75,000 IU of Colistin / Kg bodyweight (1 g of Colivet 4.8 / 64 kg bodyweight) daily for 3-5 consecutive days.
For the administration through the drinking water, the exact daily amount of Colivet 4.8 should be calculated, according to the following formula:
(mg Colivet 4.8 / kg body weight / day X mean bodyweight (kg) of animals to be treated) / (Mean daily water consumption (liter / animal)) = mg Colivet 4.8 / liter of drinking water.
To prepare the stock solution, place the indicated quantity of Colivet 4.8 in a 10 liter container, fill with water and stir until dissolved. The maximum recommended concentration is 250 grams of Colivet 4.8 / 10 liters of drinking water and 500 mg of Colivet 4.8 / liter of milk (replacer).
The medicated water should be the only source of drinking water for the animals for the entire duration of the treatment period.
-Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to Colistin.
-Do not use in case of resistance to the polymyxin.
-Do not use in horses, particularly in foals, since Colistin, due to a shift in the gastrointestinal microflora balance could lead to the development of antimicrobial associated colitis (Colitis X), typically associated with Clostridium difficile, which may be fatal.
-In the case of newborn animals and of animals with severe gastrointestinal and renal disorders the absorption of colistin may be increased. Neuro- and nephrotoxic alterations may occur.
